Bargaining in Shops

In Kuwait bargaining is expected all over. In the open markets it's a good idea to go around checking general prices before buying anything. This is particularly important for people who look obviously foreign. Go around, ask prices, then leave, and keep on asking until you are satisfied that you know what you are talking about. Try bargaining a little, but then walking off. Start off by lowering the prices by more than half. Walking off on the seller will have him calling out after you with lower and lower prices, that you will also refuse politely, until you get to the price you know is good.

In shops where the prices are on the items, you may or may not be able to bargain. Many shops put prices just to give them ammunition, but others are serious, and don't do bargaining, so always ask, and be aware of general value.

If you are obviously foreign, some sellers will not go down for you no matter what, because they hear the cachinging of money, but never mind, just leave sellers like that. There are plenty more where that came from!

Ultimately have fun! Bargaining can get you real bargains indeed if you do it wisely J
